When you encounter, an eye problem whose you should go to? This is a question that baffles the masses in donor and in Pakistan in general.
At large, our people think that the person selling glasses at a shop is qualified enough to check eyes and guide about any eye related issues. Usually he is an optician that sells you a prescription glasses and he is qualified for only making of such glasses. They cannot check or prescribe numbers of your eyes. Hence, calling them an eye specialist is a gross mistake.
Second, comes the optometrist who are qualified to check glasses number and perform few test on your eyes. They can give you glasses or contact lenses and can check eyes if they are well equipped. An eye physician or optometrist can give medicines related to few eye ailments but cannot perform lasers or surgeries.
Third, tier is ophthalmologist or general eye specialist. He is an MBBS doctor with further specialization in eyes. This ophthalmologist is the guy to go for your eye irises and performs surgeries like cataract, glaucoma, Lasik.
Fourthly comes sub-speciality eye specialists like vitreo retina, pediatrics eye specialist. They are the ones who see the diabetic eye disease and do specialized lasers.
The usual routine of our patients is to go and see a pharmacy guy and get drops or ask from the glasses person but do not see a proper eye specialist, hence loosing precious time for the problem solving making your disease worse. So you should visit appropriate person for the job to get satisfactory results.
